PAX Australia 2019

It’s that time of year again! The convention I have never missed since I got to Australia: PAX! I love PAX because I honestly owe it a lot for bringing the people responsible for getting Melbourne D&D Adventurers League together and introducing me to the community here in Australia!

Despite this finally being the year I would have been confident enough to DM if I wanted to, I instead opted to once again sit on the Sign-up table and spruik our games.

The signup table, my home, the place I live.

I’ve found that when it comes to PAX, wherein a majority of people who’ve come to play are new or haven’t played D&D in a long time, I much rather enjoyed talking to people about what D&D was all about and what Adventurers League is in comparison to all the other types of D&D.

In what feels like an increase from last year, we also had a lot of DMs come down from other parts of Australia just for PAX! With the exception of Joel (who comes here about every other month anyway ;3), this was the first time I got to hang out with a lot of these other DMs!

Despite my predictions, I wasn’t going to be 3 for 3 when it comes to conventions that I’ve needed to pitch hit at. It almost happened with the DM being almost 30 minutes late and I decided to just let him continue DMing as he knew the adventure far better than I did, since he had run it several times over the past 3 days.

I did manage to get a single instance of DMing on tho!

I ended up DMing for people who had run out of spots on Saturday night. As always, I ran what feels like my signature adventure now: A Dragon’s Breath.

I also sat in on a panel for the first time ever thanks to Luke!

PAX is a mammoth of an event, but every year, despite how little of it I actually see, it reminds me of how much I appreciate it as an event that brings the greater Adventurers League community in Australia together.
